How to Boost Your Immune System Naturally

It’s January and you know what that means! Everyone in your house is probably feeling under the weather. I do not know what it is. Maybe after all of the December Holiday Hoopla, we are just so worn out that our immune systems come under attack. Of course, all those frigid temperatures do not help! Either way, I have some natural solutions to keep those bugs buzzing away!

As much as I abhor being any less than on my “A Game” (Type A personality over here!), seeing my little one sick is the absolute worst! This year, my daughter started preschool. I work from home, so her exposure to those ickies that kids like to pass back and forth has been limited.

Of course, I reflected upon that protective bubble that I am always thinking of inventing. Since I have yet to develop a patent for such a thing, I decided that I had to find ways to boost her immune system.

In an article by Harvard Health, researchers have found that there are proven ways to boost your immunity. However, keep in mind that your immune system is not just one thing, but an actual system of moving parts.

There is no way to absolutely guarantee that a germ will not invade your immune system fortress. However, there are many things you can do to fortify that fortress to give you the best possible chance of keeping those bugs at bay!

Natural Immune Boosting Recipes

These recipes are for general immune boosting. You know, when you need a little pick-me-up. Or, when everyone in your child’s preschool class is suddenly absent. These are the recipes to defend your fortress!

General Immune Boosting Roller

5 drops of Thieves*

5 drops of Purification

5 drops of Lemon

Combine in a 10ml roller bottle. Then, fill the rest with carrier oil (I like coconut oil!) and shake well. Apply to the bottom of feet and down spine each morning and at bedtime.

I Need a Boost Roller

5 drops Thieves

5 drops Lemon

3 drops Clove

3 drops Oregano

2 drops Eucalyptus

1 drop Rosemary

Combine in a 10ml roller bottle and fill with your favorite carrier oil. Thieves is already a great immune boosting oil on it’s own and combines Cinnamon, Clove, Eucalyptus, Lemon, and Rosemary. When I need an extra power punch to my immune system, I add these additional oils.

Lemon essential oil is high in Vitamin C, which is great for the immune system. Clove has antiviral properties and I also just love the smell. Oregano might just have super powers. Or maybe it just  feels that way! It has antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Basically, all the “antis”.

 Immune Boosting and Sanitizing

Feel like the ickies are invading your house? Or just like to clean? I just love the feel of a clean house. Even better if I can feel like I am disinfecting, but without the harsh chemicals. I am in the process of completely elminating all household cleaners and products that contain harsh chemicals and toxins. Replacing these products with products that contain all natural ingredients and are safe for my family and pets feels really good!

Thieves Household Cleaner

This is not a DIY recipe, but I want to share the awesomeness of this household cleaner. I use it for everything. It is formulated with only plant-based and mineral-based ingredients. It combines the immune boosting power of Thieves Essential Oil and cleaning! Here are some of my favorite uses:

  • For countertops and general cleaning: 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner + 2-3 cups of water in a glass spray bottle
  • Shower Spray: 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner + 1 squirt Thieves Dish Soap + 1/4 cup White Vinegar + 4 cups of water in a glass spray bottle.
  • Bathtub Scrub: 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner + 1 tsp baking soda. Scrub and rinse with water.
  • Glass and Mirror Cleaner: 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner + 2-3 drops Lemon Essential Oil + 1 tsp White Vinegar + 2-3 cups of water in a glass spray bottle.
  • Floor Cleaner: 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner + 5 drops Pine Essential Oil + 2 drops Lemon Essential Oil + 2-3 cups water in a glass spray bottle. Spray on cloth mop and clean floors! For hardwood, try adding a couple of capfuls of Olive Oil to make your floors extra shiny!

Seasonal Support

You know the fun of having the weather change and suddenly it is like your nose is like a leaky faucet? Well, don’t despair! These all natural remedies will have you breathing easier in no time!

Sniffy Time Roller

5 drops of Lemon

5 drops of Lavender

5 drops of Peppermint

Combine in a 10ml roller bottle, fill rest with carrier oil and shake well. Apply to the bridge of your nose and behind your ears. For the kids, try the Kid Scents Sniffleease oil. It is prediluted for the little ones and smells amazing! I may have stolen this one for myself…

Breathe Easy Diffuser Recipe

3 drops Lemon

3 drops Lavender

3 drops Peppermint

2 drops Eucalyptus

1 drop R.C.

Add essential oils to distilled water in your diffuser. Then, breathe in the goodness!

Respiratory Support Roller

4 drops of Lemon*

4 drops of Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)

Combine in a 10ml roller bottle. Then, fill the rest with carrier oil and shake well. Apply to the back of the neck and upper back. Inhale and enjoy!

Tummy Time

If your tummy is rumbling and grumbling, fret not. There are plenty of things you can do to keep your tummy happy without the aid of chemicals.

Activated Charcoal

You may have heard a thing or two regarding uses of activated charcoal already. However, it probably was in reference to the teeth, not the tummy. But activated charcoal is actually great for the tummy, too! It helps reduce gas and bloating by binding the byproducts that cause such discomfort in foods. Just take a capsule with about eight ounces of water before meals and your tummy will thank you!

Ginger

Oh, my love of ginger. I have always appreciated it’s spicy goodness, but when I had crazy morning sickness, I started getting creative with my favorite root. Ginger helps settle your tummy and it improves digestion. I always have it on hand! Chewing on it is a little rough, but if you have morning sickness, give it a try! However, I like juicing ginger with other immune boosting fruits and veggies to get a delicious bang for my buck.

Immune Boosting Juice

Calm Tummy Roller

5 drops Peppermint

5 drops DiGize

You can use peppermint OR DiGize! Both oils are wonderful for easing tummies and making them happy. Add oil(s) to a 10mL roller and fill with your favorite carrier oil. Then, rub around your belly button and let the oils work their magic.

All Natural Immune Building Tea

I love my coffee and I love my tea. But, when I am trying to get into “fighting form”, I like to keep it simple. Whether you need a boost or to kick the crud, these tea recipes will have you ready for a tea party in no time.

Turmeric Tea

1 inch Turmeric Root

1 inch Ginger

1 cup Almond Milk

1 tsp Cinnamon

1/2 tsp Black Pepper

First, peel and chop the turmeric and ginger into strips. Boil your almond milk and add the rest of your ingredients.Steep for 10-15 minutes. Strain, and enjoy with your favorite sweetener. Turmeric is seriously the best thing ever. Read more about the health benefits of tumeric here.

Thieves Tea

1 drop of Thieves

1 drop of Lemon

8-12 ounces of hot water

honey

Boil your water and add the essential oils. If a full drop is too much, take a toothpick and dip into your oil and then swirl in your water.

The “Mother” of All Immune System Boosting Teas

1 tbs Apple Cider Vinegar (aka “The Mother”)

1/2 lemon, juiced

1 tsp Cinnamon

1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper

Honey, to taste

8-12 ounces hot water

Add the juices of half a lemon to your cup and add hot water. Mix in the rest of the ingredients. I am not going to beat around the bush. Apple Cider Vinegar does not have the most appealing taste. However, the health benefits are incredible, so drink up!

  1. This is so helpful. There are so many bugs going round at the moment as soon as you’ve got rid of one you catch another! Great tips!

    1. Ginger is a staple in my house! My toddler actually teases me about my love of ginger! Do you do fresh turmeric or dried? I love the fresh, but it turns my fingers yellow! Let me know if you need the YL hookup!
